Since the hybrid engine is obviously different from a standard engine, what kind of maintenance issues do I need to be aware of?

Also, i did visit a dealer once to look at the Toyota Prius. The dealer did say the batteries need to be replaced after 7 years... That's probably a big expense! It all depends on how long you plan on keeping the car though, i guess.

I would be scared of those things until they get the kinks sorted out. Probably costs 8k to replace the electric engine.
